H E R S T O R I A N S
Piecing together history one woman at a time.
'It used to be said that facts speak for themselves. This is, of course, untrue.
The facts speak only when the historian calls on them.'
Edward Hallett Carr in 'What is History?'
VISION
Our goal is simple: to get women on Wiki.

Wikipedia has become the default online resource for facts. Yet facts do not speak for themselves. Rather, as posited by Professor Edward Hallett Carr in his classic book "What is History?", it is up to historians to add, submit and omit.
HerStorians strives to increase female representation on Wikipedia: both as editors and as entries. The statistics highlight a conspicuous gender disparity; a mere 16.7% of Wikipedians, who are volunteers that write and edit, identify as female.
By addressing the dearth of women on the world’s most prominent online encyclopaedia, we aim to present a fuller, richer version of history, one woman at a time.

'History is no longer just a chronicle of kings and statesmen, of people who wielded power, but of ordinary women and men engaged in manifold tasks. Women's history is an assertion that women have a history.'
